Scripture for the Day (August 19, 2015)

For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

The Word of God is quick (alive) and it will light your path if you will allow it to. We are instructed by the Word of God to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). How do we do that? What does that look like?

Wearing a cross does not necessarily indicate a person is walking by faith. Being a member of a church, attending a prayer group, reading your Bible, or praying every day, does not necessarily indicate a person is walking by faith. Walking by faith requires taking a step. Faith without works is dead (James 2:20). Does that mean we work our way to salvation and blessings. Absolutely not!! What it does mean is that God has a plan for each one of us and He will reveal it to us but we have to exercise our faith to get in line with His plan. It will require some movement on our part.

Abraham is called the “father of faith”. One of the best examples of why he is called that is in Hebrews 11:8 where it says this: “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went”.

God will never give you all the details. He will point you in the right direction but He is looking for you and I to step out on faith. My wife and I were living in Collierville, TN from 1979-1989. We were saved there, entered the ministry there, and thought we would retire there. Then one day I was offered a big promotion to move to Jacksonville, FL. My first thought was to reject the offer. My second thought was to pray about it. When I prayed about it God gave me the story of Abraham in Hebrews and told me it was time to move. He also told me not to look back. We knew no one in Jacksonville! We just had a peace that God said move so we moved.

Shortly after our move we started attending a thriving new church. Shortly after that we were introduced to Brig and Lita Hart. Shortly after that we became Chaplains for their business organizations. We are still doing that today.

Here is my point. Walking by faith will usually require some type of move or moves on your part. It will usually not make sense to your natural mind but you will have a peace about it.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (1 Corinthians 2:9)

We have seen thousands of lives changed in an arena I never would have chosen or even imagined. That would have never happened if we had not moved. God’s ways are always higher than our ways. Walking by faith is never boring. It is an adventure that continues to unfold. We highly recommend it!!
