Scripture for the Day – July 15, 2019

Oh (I would to God) that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness. (Psalm 107:8-9)

In our first devotional on this subject matter I made the statement that I believe that the foundation of our faith, hope, and love is the goodness of God!!!

(The Big Three) And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Cor. 13:13)

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6) The base Greek word used for rewarder here means “good” so to have faith you must believe that God is good.

(Love) Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. (1 Cor.13:7) To hope all things, one must believe in the goodness of God.

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. (Matthew 22:37) To love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, and mind, you must believe in the goodness of God.

I was a guest speaker this Sunday morning at one of our local churches. I knew that I was going to teach on the “Goodness of God” but what I did not know was the unusual analogy God was going to give me about His goodness.

Have you ever heard of the Innocence Project? A couple of lawyers founded this project in the 1990s after DNA analysis became so reliable and acceptable in courts. Since their inception they have been able to gain the release of over 300 prison inmates based on DNA evidence that showed they were innocent. The average time spent in prison for these innocent people has been 14 years with some being on death-row.

Now you may be asking, what has this to do with our subject matter? I am glad you asked that and here is what I feel God showed me. Many people have convicted God of crimes He did not have anything to do with. As a result, God has been locked up and cannot help these very individuals that He wants to help. The Book of James tells us that a double-minded person will not receive anything from God. That is not God’s fault! That is our fault because we do not believe 100% in the goodness of God.

The faith, hope, and love of some people has been infected and diluted by doubts and religious doctrines that mixes the DNA of Satan with the DNA of God. That should not be!!!

Unlock the prison doors! Let God out! Let Him be what He is. His DNA is completely GOOD!

God is good all the time, and all the time God is good! The “gooder” you know He is, the “gooder” He will be in your life due to your faith, hope and love!
