Scripture for the Day

He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine], and He is the perfect imprint and very image of [God’s] nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power. When He had by offering Himself accomplished our cleansing of sins and riddance of guilt, He sat down
at the right hand of the divine Majesty on high, (Hebrews 1:3, AMPC)

I’ve heard people say when bad things happen to them, or to other people, that they don’t know whether it was God or the devil that did it. This is probably the number one problem that we see with people trying to come to grips with who God is. They get all mixed up with what they think the Old Testament depicts about God versus what the New Testament depicts. Some religious doctrines notice I did not say religious truths) confuse the picture even more when they attribute every good and every bad/evil thing to God. It is critical to our faith that we know who God is and know what His intentions and heart desires are toward us. The only way you are going to know that is through His Word which is Jesus and is the truth. Let’s look at some scriptures that will help us define who God the Father really is. John 14:9-10: Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.”

Jesus said in verse 9 that “if you’ve seen me you’ve seen the Father.” If you want to know what the Father does, look at Jesus. Then Jesus said in verse 10 that “the Father who dwells in me He does the works.” Jesus never put sickness on anybody, but Jesus did say in John 10:10, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” I also hear people say, “Well what about that hurricane or storm that killed so many people and destroyed so many homes? If God didn’t do it, who did?” In Luke 8:24 Jesus calmed the storm. He didn’t send it. Let me ask you this question. Would Jesus rebuke a storm that His Father sent? Absolutely not!! Storms come to kill and destroy. I wonder who does that?

John 9:4 says, “I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.” In verse 6, right after He said that, He healed a blind man. Acts 10:38 says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” Did God send the sickness or did the devil? If you want to know what God does, get into the Word of God and see what Jesus did. Jesus is the exact representation of the Father. If you know Jesus, you know the Father. If you have seen Jesus, you have seen the Father. In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: (Colossians 1:13-15).

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth (John 1:14). See Jesus, see the Father!
