Scripture of The Day

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

By Ed Henderson

In my opinion, Chapter 8 of Romans is one of the most powerful chapters in the entire Bible. It explains to believers who we are. We are “more than conquerors” (Romans 8:37), and nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39).  The one verse that has challenged a lot of people is our Scripture for the Day which says, “all things work together for good”. Every one of us has been through tough times in our lives and we could not see the benefit of such things at the time. So, let’s talk about Romans 8:28. First off, when you read the entire Chapter 8 of Romans, you will quickly see that it is talking about, and to, believers that are walking after the Spirit, versus unbelievers that are walking after the flesh. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. (Romans 8:1)

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. (Romans 8:5) Non-believers will never understand Romans 8:28, or this chapter, because the only things they see are things in the natural such as sickness, poverty, suffering, hunger, death, etc. They can’t see in the Spirit. In their minds, they cannot fathom how all these things could work together for good. If you do not have the Spirit of God living inside of you, the Kingdom of God cannot be seen. You therefore see the entire world as one dimensional and as such usually blame God, fate, or luck for everything. You don’t realize that you have an enemy (a conqueror) that you can have authority over. You do not realize that Satan is your enemy and he is the “accuser of the brethren” and it is he that has come to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10), not God.

With age, and years with God as a believer, comes a lot more wisdom and understanding. As we look back on hard times we can see how God brought us through and taught us things that we would not have known otherwise. It is that hope and faith in Him and His Word that helps bring us through unscathed and better, versus beat up and bitter. The scripture tells us that in this world we will have tribulation, but it also tells us that to be at peace and to be of good cheer for He (Jesus) has overcome the world. You can also, through Him and His Word, overcome and conquer the conquerors!!!
