Scripture for the Day (October 1, 2018)

God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? (Numbers 23:19)

We published a devotional on 9/28/2018 entitled “Lying Is A Spirit”. We think that was one of the most important devotionals we have ever written. If you have not read the initial devotional about this subject we suggest you take time to read yesterday’s devotional before reading this one.

We talked in that initial devotional about how dangerous lying can be and we gave you an example of a woman we ministered to in prison that had been consumed by lies. She had lied so much that it had become her nature. She had lied so much that her lies became her truth.

We also gave you a scripture that shows you where this lying spirit comes from:

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44)

For any of you that have been addicted to alcohol or drugs, or have worked with addicts, or have friends or family addicted, you know that these type things don’t happen overnight. They usually start out small but they end up in death or destruction. That is the nature of sin and the enemy because he comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10).

Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. (Proverbs 27:20) You can never drink enough alcohol to quench your thirst or take enough drugs to get high enough. That is the hook the enemy uses.

Now, let me ask you a question. How do you see Satan? Do you just see him as an evil being that was placed on this earth by God ? It would be easy to arrive at that conclusion since John 8:44 says he was a murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth. But is that the right conclusion? Listen to what the prophets Ezekiel and Isaiah said about Satan.

This is what the Sovereign Lord says: ‘You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. (Ezekiel 28:12)

Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. (Ezekiel 28:15)

You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. (Isaiah 14:13)

Here is the revelation that I want every reader to hear and understand. Satan was not evil in the beginning! He was perfect! He succumbed to a lie, pride, and arrogance, thinking that he could replace God. He did not abide in the truth and his lies eventually became his nature. That is why it’s so important for you and I to abide in the truth, walk in the truth, and cast down everything that exalts itself above the knowledge of God (which is the truth).

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

Lying will never set you free and that is why repentance, confessing of our faults, and even being born-again, are all based on us speaking and walking in the truth. If a perfect creation by God like Satan can be totally changed by lies just think what lies can do to us that are imperfect beings.
