Scripture for the Day – June 26, 2020

And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. (2 Kings 6:15-17)

When we lived in the Memphis TN area, we were part of a prayer group that often-had visitors come in and give their testimony. I will never forget one particular night when a a couple came to share. The woman had been completely blind for years. Her husband prayed for her every night for over 10 years. One night, as he prayed for her like he always did, his wife was miraculously healed. She could see!!! It was an exciting night to say the least. When she returned to her doctor for an examination the doctor told her she should still be blind according to his exam, but she could see. A miracle healing had happened!!!

When the couple returned to their church (which did not believe in healing) they were kicked out. Religion is a horrible substitute for a relationship with the Lord.

As I looked into this woman’s eyes, I will never forget what I saw. Her eyes were not normal. The only conclusion I could draw from what I saw was that the Lord had given her Spirit eyes. Elisha’s servant was given the same Spirit eyes to see what Elisha saw. We get so influenced by what we see in the natural and forget that there is a whole other dimension out there that we need to see.

Most of you are aware of the health struggles I have been going through. I recently went through two surgeries that were not successful. Those type of experiences tend to shake your faith a little and cause you to question if you are in the right place with the right doctors. My main oncology doctor scheduled a third procedure at a different hospital. As my wife and I walked into that hospital it was like walking into the 1940s. It was an old hospital and the hospital personnel were not very professional looking. Everything in the natural looked bleak. We almost turned around and walked out.

But then, I met the surgeon and his staff. They still looked like they had been banished to this place, but the surgeon was upbeat and positive. He told me that he knew what I had been through and that I was going to walk out of that hospital that day with everything I needed. He grabbed my hand and told me to stay positive and he would get it done. He did just that and after two failed attempts by other surgeons he got the job done.

What we see in the natural is not always what we need to be looking for. God has a way of sprinkling signs in our path at times of doubt, but we must have eyes to see. We must have Spirit eyes.

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, (Ephesians 1:17-18)
