Scripture for the Day – July 22, 2019

Exodus 13:21-22: And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.

A dear brother in the Lord called me one day and was asking for prayer about a career change. He wanted to make sure he was in God’s will in making the move at the right time. I encouraged him to pray for wisdom on what to do and the peace of God on when to do it. A few days later he called me back and said the Holy Spirit showed him this scripture in Exodus 13.

It says the Lord went before them in the form of a cloud to lead the way. They didn’t move till the cloud (the Lord) moved. My friend said the Lord told him that you’ll know when to move when the cloud starts moving.

Isaiah 55:12: For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace.

Now that was the Old Covenant, but God still goes before us to lead us in the New Covenant but he does it by His Holy Spirit on the inside (the Spirit of peace). When a person is born again, the Holy Spirit of God comes to live inside of the human spirit and recreate it in righteousness and true holiness. Your spirit man becomes brand new. That’s why II Corinthians 5:17 says: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

So man’s spirit that has been born again is like a lamp, or in modern day terms a flashlight, that would guide you where you can’t see.

Proverbs 20:27 says, “The spirit of a man is the lamp (flashlight) of the LORD, searching all the inner depths of his heart.”

The Bible calls the spirit of man the hidden person of the heart. I Peter 3:4 says: Rather let it be the hidden man of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

In John 16:13 Jesus said, “But when the Spirit of truth comes, he will lead you into all truth. He will not speak his own words, but he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is to come.”

Under the New Covenant the Holy Spirit will lead us through our own spirits (our inward man).

Romans 8:14 says: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.

I Corinthians 2:11 says: For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

II Corinthians 4:16 says: Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.

The Spirit of God knows the thoughts of God and He will speak them to us inwardly through our inward man. Spending time in God’s Word and in His presence will heighten your awareness and sensitivity to that inward man’s voice.

Learn to listen on the inside!!!
