Scripture for the Day (January 7, 2016)

But as it is written: Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. (1 Corinthians 2:9-10)

I used to think that the scripture for the day was talking about Heaven and I based that assumption on John 14:2 where Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you.” As I thought about it for a while I believe the Holy Spirit showed me that we do have an idea of what Heaven is like based on what the scriptures say about Heaven. I also realized that even though eye has not seen nor ear heard the things God has prepared for those who love Him, verse 10 says God has revealed them through His Spirit. We can’t see everything God has for us with our physical eyes and ears. They are seen spiritually. They are seen with the eyes of the heart.

Ephesians 1:18 contains Paul’s prayer for the church which says, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,”

I Corinthians 2:14 says, “The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit”

In John 16:13 Jesus said, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”

God couldn’t show us everything we were supposed to do all at once because then we would be walking by sight instead of walking by faith (II Corinthians 5:7). But by His Spirit He will lead us and guide us into all truth and will show us things to come.

Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”

Once again, that power that works in us is the power of the Holy Spirit and He will lead you and guide you through the Word to that exceedingly, abundantly, above all that we can ask place.

Thank you Lord, that by the power of your Holy Spirit the eyes of our understanding are being opened and enlightened.

My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. (Proverbs 23:26)
