Scripture for the Day – June 25, 2020

Isaiah 53:5: But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Jesus already paid for our sins and paid for our healing. Forgiveness of sins and wholeness for the body was paid for 2,000 years ago. We can see that from these scriptures.

Matthew 8:16-17 says, “When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: ‘He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.’”

I Peter 2:24 says, “Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.”

The New Living Translation says, “He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.”

Today I want to relate a story that helped me see this. A woman brought her daughter, who was sick and needed surgery, to receive prayer for healing at a church service. Now the daughter only came because the mother asked her to come. She had told her that if she would come to the service, she would give her the money to pay for her surgery. When the minister asked her if she believed she would be healed when he prayed for her, the mother answered for her. The minister asked the mother to let the daughter speak or he would not pray for her. The mother agreed to let the daughter speak. When the minister asked her again if she believed in healing, she said she did not. She said she just came because her mother wanted her to. She said she would loan her the money for the surgery if she would just come. The minister said he did not want to pray for her because he knew she didn’t believe in healing, and it would be a waste of time.

Now, could you pray for someone who was lost and get them saved without them believing in salvation or in Jesus? No, you would be wasting your time until they believed it. It is the same way with healing; in fact, this minister got the daughter in the story to read Matthew 8:17 out loud. She saw that Jesus took our infirmities and bore our sickness. The minister said tears began to well up in her eyes and she said, “I see it, Jesus did take my infirmities and bore my sickness.” She then told the minister to, “Go ahead and lay your hands on me and I’ll be healed”, and he did, and she was. What did it? The Word of God.

Romans 10:17 says, “S0 then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

By His stripes I am healed!!!
