Scripture for the Day (December 12, 2018)

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. (Isaiah 55:8)

One of the things that I have learned over the years is that we are not as smart as we think. We humans have become so educated and enlightened that we think that we can figure out all things. Wrong!!! The fact of the matter is that if you think you have everything figured out, using only your mental capacity and book knowledge, you are probably wrong. When I say you are wrong, I mean you have not discovered God’s best. Consider the following scripture:

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (1 Corinthians 2:9)

Does the above scripture mean that God is hiding things from us? To a certain extent, He is. The verse following this scripture, which many people ignore, gives a better understanding of how God’s best plan is revealed.

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. (1 Corinthians 2:10)

We see what I call God’s (hide and seek) tactic throughout the New Testament. Jesus told the disciples that unless a person was born again they could not even see the Kingdom of God. That means it was hidden. He also told them that when the Spirit of God came He would reveal the truth to us which means the real truth is hidden and only the Spirit of God can reveal it to us. Listen to what the Apostle Paul said to the Corinthians:

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: (1 Corinthians 2:7)

In other words, it’s a heart and relationship issue. You have to have a heart for God and be seeking Him before truth will be revealed.

Now, how do we apply this knowledge to our daily lives? Let’s use as an example a gifted young high school athlete that wants to play football at the collegiate level. This young person has many choices in front of them and many colleges interested. How does that young person make the right choice on where to go? Is it strictly based on the size of the school, or the scholarship offer, or the distance from home, or a combination of all of the above and more? Here is my advice. Do your due diligence first (nothing wrong with getting as much info as you can) but don’t rely just on what you see. Seek God and ask Him what His choice is. Ask Him to give you a big witness (sign). This is a big decision and God is well able to give you a big sign for big decisions. Expect it and look for it!!!

This approach does not just apply to football decisions. It applies to all major decisions. God sees more that we see. He is not limited to the present circumstances. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. In other words, He sees way down the road and because of that insight you can trust Him to lead you in the right direction.

For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11, Amplified Bible)
