Scripture for the Day (February 8 , 2016)

Romans 8:14 says, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”

Jesus said in John 10:27 that “My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me.” John 16:13 says, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will tell you things to come.”

Now, the Word of God is either true or it’s not. I submit to you that it is true and God is still speaking to His people. The big question is, do we know how to hear Him? I can only share with you my own experience over the last 34 years of serving the Lord. God has the ability to speak to you in any way he chooses. I just know how He has spoken to me over the years.

1. He speaks through His Word – The Word of God is alive. It is not dead! You can be reading the Word and a scripture will just jump off the pages at you in a way that you will have knowledge and insight that you never had before. That’s God speaking to you through His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit inspired men to write the Word of God so who better to interpret and bring to life the Word to you. One sure way to not hear God, don’t read the Word.

2. He speaks through circumstances – You may be praying and seeking an answer for a particular situation and all of a sudden a circumstance happens that provides an answer to your prayers. That is God speaking to you. Now, you have the option of going with that or ignoring it. One sure way to think God does not speak to you, ignore the circumstances.

3. God speaks to us through people – The gifts of the Holy Spirit (such as prophecy, words of wisdom, and words of knowledge) are still in operation today. One of these gifts may have your name on it. One sure way to not hear God is to never hangout with people that possess such gifts, don’t go to a church that allows such gifts to operate, and believe that these gifts have passed away with the Apostles).

Here is the bottom line. If you want to hear God, read and meditate on His Word daily. If you want to hear God, communicate with Him (PRAY). If you want to hear God, expect Him to speak and pay attention to the circumstances around you. If you want to hear God, get involved with a body of believers that believe He still speaks to us.

God wants to talk to you!!!!!!!

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105)
