Scripture for the Day (June 17, 2015)

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:18-19)

How do you know when you are filled with the Spirit?

According to Ephesians 5:19 you will be speaking, and singing, and making melody in your heart to the Lord. If you are filled with the Holy Spirit it will be noticeable. You’ll know it and so will those around you, because if you’re full of the Holy Spirit you’ll have a song in your heart. To have a song in your heart means you’ve got joy!

Romans 14:17 says, “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,”

Let’s look at ten examples from scripture where someone was filled with or full of the Holy Spirit:

Luke 1:41-42 says, “And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then she spoke out with a loud voice
and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!”

Luke 1:67 says, “Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied.”

Luke 4:1 says, “Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,”

Acts 2:4 says, “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues.”

Acts 4:8-10 says, “Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; Be it known unto you all and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.”

Acts 4:31 says, “And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.”

Acts 6:3 says, “Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.”

Acts 7:55 says, “But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.”

Acts 11:24 speaks about Barnabus when it says, “For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith.”

Acts 13:52 says, “And the disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.”

In these ten examples from scripture, where it says someone was filled with or full of the Holy Spirit, it says they spoke out; prophesied; were led by the Spirit; spoke with other tongues; spoke to rulers; spoke the Word of God boldly; were appointed over business, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus; were full of faith; and were filled with joy.

Are we full of the Holy Ghost? Let’s make a point to stay filled up and splash over on others!

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: (Matthew 3:11)

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalm 1:3)
