Scripture for the Day – May 23, 2019

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you. The Amplified Bible says, “But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all, His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.” (Matthew 6:33)

I remember standing on this verse (Matthew 6:33) after graduating from Bible School and preparing to move back to my hometown of Live Oak, FL. I wasn’t married at the time and wasn’t even dating anyone, but I was ready to settle down and get married and get involved in ministry. That was about the time that I came across Proverbs 18:22: He who finds a wife finds a good thing.

As I began to meditate on Proverbs 18:22 the Holy Spirit, (which is our teacher), brought to my attention Matthew 6:33: Seek first the Kingdom and all these “things” will be added unto you. Again Proverbs 18:22 says, “He that finds a wife finds a good ‘thing’.” He showed me that if I would focus on God’s kingdom and not be seeking after a wife, but instead would seek first His kingdom, that the wife I needed and God had for me, would come my way.

I want you to know that in a matter of weeks God led a young lady right to me as I was busy involving myself in the ministry. That young lady became my wife one year later and this June we will have been married 33 years. God knows the things we need even before we ask, but He still wants us to ask. And He can do a much better job at making sure we are taken care of than we can.

I Peter 5:7: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. The Amplified Bible says, “Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.”

God has blessed and cared for my wife Terri and me affectionately and watchfully as we have raised four children and worked with thousands of youth over the years. Through all these years we have learned to cast all our cares on God.

It’s too late to start worrying now. Keep seeking first the Kingdom of God, and don’t worry about a thing!!! Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34)

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)
