Scripture for the Day (June 12, 2018)

Let us hold fast to the profession of our faith without wavering (for He is faithful who promised), (Hebrews 10:23)

Our local Pastor (Eddie Adams at Victory Tabernacle) preached a great message this Sunday morning entitled “Great Expectations”. This devotional is going to address that same topic, use some excerpts from his sermon, but also take this same topic to a personal belief level using some serious questions about our own expectations. The big question is “have we lowered your expectations of God”?

We live in a technologically advanced world where science, agriculture, and medical systems (just to name a few) have advanced greatly. As a result, the average life span of humans has increased tremendously just over the last century. Has this in turn contributed to us lowering our expectations of God? Has our increase in knowledge inadvertently resulted in a decreased reliance on God?

One of the statements our Pastor made was this. “Never lower your expectations from God to the level of your experiences, but always raise them to His promises”. When he said that statement my mind immediately flashed back to all the promises in God’s Word. Let’s take a look at just a few of those promises and how it relates to us personally.

ProvisionBut my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19). Do you have a need today? If so, who or what are you trusting in to meet that need?

PeacePeace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27) Do you need peace today? If so, who or what are you trusting in to provide that peace?

Household SalvationThey replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.” (Acts 16:31) Do you have any prodigals out there from your own household? If so, who or what are you trusting in to save those prodigals?

Desires of Your HeartDelight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. (Psalm 37:4) Do you have a dream or desire that has not come to fruition yet? If so, who or what are you trusting in to cause that dream or desire to manifest in your life.

WisdomIf any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (James 1:5) Do you need wisdom? If so, who or what are you relying on to provide that wisdom?

DirectionThy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105) Do you need direction today? If so, who or what are you relying on to give you that direction?

We could go on forever but do you get my point? His provisions are unlimited. He can bring peace in the midst of a storm. He has contacts that we do not have that can minister to our children. He can show us the way because He is the Way. His supply is unlimited. Our expectation is what’s limited. We need to have GREAT expectations!!! Just remember the following quote from Pastor Adams, “Never lower your expectations from God to the level of your experiences, but always raise them to His promises”.
