Scripture for the Day (May 30, 2018)
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, (Luke 4:18)
We just returned from participating in a business function in Dallas TX. It was a great time of ministry to a group of business entrepreneurs that came together to learn how to grow their businesses. The best part of the whole weekend is the voluntary church service that is provided by the leadership on Sunday morning.
We have being doing this for 28 years in hotels all across this country and it still always amazes me how God works in these meetings. When the anointing comes on the scene through worship, preaching, testimonies, and teaching the Word, it is something to behold. One of the key leaders came up to us after the altar call Sunday and said he did not realize the depth of need of the folks in his business. The fact of the matter is that the Holy Spirit does know, and when He shows up, all the hidden hurts come to light. It is the anointing that breaks and destroys yokes and we just love it when that happens.
I remember the first time I witnessed this was years ago in our home church in Piperton, TN. We did not even know what to call it at the time but we learned later it was the anointing of God. After a sweet time of worship and praise one night the presence of God filled the room and people started to cry. It was apparent to everyone in the sanctuary that God was there. When that happened, you had a choice to make at that moment. If you were not saved, you had to get saved or leave. If you had any unforgiveness for someone in the room, you had to get up and forgive that person publicly. You just had to yield to the Holy Spirit or leave the building.
Probably, most of you have never witnessed anything like that but we have seen it over and over as evangelists. Our prayer for all of you is that you will find a place where this anointing comes in like a flood. Those places (whether a church, hotel, home group, or whatever) still exists, but you have to search for them. Consider the following scriptures and just remember this. The last name of Jesus is not Christ. The word Christ means the anointed one.
And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. (Isaiah 10:27)
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? (Isaiah 58:6)
So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him. (Isaiah 59:19)
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (John 14:26)
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. (Acts 10:38)
For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. (1 Thessalonians 1:5)
