Scripture for the Day (April 10,2018)
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
We went to see one of our sons on Easter weekend and part of that trip required us to travel the interstate around and through Atlanta. When we were younger we lived in Atlanta, but no more. The traffic is terrible and everybody is in such a hurry. The speed limit on the interstate is 75 mph but you will get blown off the road if you are doing the speed limit. The average speed is closer to 90 mph. That’s just crazy and when there is a wreck, and it seems there always is, it is a mess.We all live in a “fast-lane” type environment and sometimes we can let that affect our spiritual life. If you take a close look at the fruits of the Spirit you will see the following:
But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23, Amplified)
Do you see anything in these fruits that indicates we should be in a hurry? No, on the contrary, the exact opposite is portrayed in the specific fruits of peace, patience, and self-control.
It is always amazing to me when I need a contractor to do some work how different the price estimates will be. You just have to be patient and get at least three estimates (some times more) and evaluate the contractors. That same patience is necessary when you are waiting on God. The President of our ministry (Brig Hart) has a favorite saying that is very appropriate in this case. He puts it like this, “Don’t get greedy, don’t get in a hurry, and always choose wisely”.
I recently heard a great song entitled “Not In A Hurry” by Will Reagan and United Pursuit that addresses the topic of not getting in a hurry when it comes to our relationship with the Lord. The link to this song is as follows:
We encourage all of our readers to be at peace, slow down, and listen to the Lord. Perfect love casteth out fear (1 John 4:18). Just slow down and love on the Lord. He has all your answers and with one word He can bring peace to any situation. Jesus is the Prince of Peace. He is not the one that creates pressure and confusion. The enemy is the one that will always try to get you to make hasty decisions. He will always create pressure to try and force you into a hurried decision. That should be a red flag!!!
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6, ESV)
