Scripture for the Day (March 1, 2018)

If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. (John 12:26)

I just finished watching the ceremony where Billy Graham’s casket was placed in the Capitol Rotunda building in Washington, DC. It was a very emotional experience for me. I am not one to cry much but I found myself crying through parts of this ceremony and asking God why this was so emotional. The following are my personal thoughts about this great man of God that was honored today and why it was so emotional for me.

My wife and I are evangelists at heart. We have spent our life reaching out to the lost in the world whether that be through serving as Chaplains in the business world or preaching to men and women in prisons. One of the most emotional parts of this ceremony was when it was revealed by one of the commentators the origin of Billy Graham’s casket. This casket was not your usual ornate casket with gold plated handles and fixtures. This casket was a plain but well-crafted pine box with no ornate fixtures. It was built by inmates from a Louisiana State prison. That got me!! What a testimony that the men of that prison would want to honor Billy in that way. And what a testimony to the heart of Billy Graham that he would have wanted it that way. He could have had the fanciest and most expensive casket ever but he chose to honor those in prison rather than honor himself. Well done Billy Graham!!

One of the comments being repeated over and over again by news media types was that we probably would never see another person like this again due to our changing culture. It is true that we live in a world that has run away from God and has become more secular in nature. However, it’s not too late! Billy Graham’s casket lying in the Rotunda is God’s way of reminding us again of what He has already said in His Word over and over again. It is God reaching out to His people.

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: (Deuteronomy 30:19)

We have a choice personally and we have a choice as a nation. Look at the world we live in and what it’s producing and then compare it to the world preached and lived by Billy Graham. One produces death and one produces life. God wants life and blessing for all of us but we have to choose.

I believe we could be on the verge of the greatest harvest of all time and it could be that it will be sparked by the death of Billy Graham per John 12:24:

I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone [just one grain, never more]. But if it dies, it produces much grain and yields a harvest. (John 12:24, Amplified Bible)

I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives. (John 12:24, NLT)

Well done Billy Graham!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
