Scripture for the Day (December 29, 2017)

You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day” (Deuteronomy 8:18).

When you don’t know who you are or what you have, you can be easily manipulated and deceived. As a Christian, you must know that you have been saved. You must know that you have been healed, and you must know that you have been given a rich supply.

It’s a good feeling to have extra money at the end of the month, but a lot of Christians have extra month at the end of the money. Poverty is not a sin, but it is a curse and a problem that many live with.

One thing I have discovered over the years is that when a person is in financial trouble, the answer is not more money. If a person lives with a poverty mentality, money will only be a temporary solution to a long-term need. We must understand this. If we keep doing what we’ve always done, then we will continue to have what we’ve always had. And nothing is going to change until something changes.

Jesus said in Mark 9:23, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” It is possible to break free of the poverty mind-set and walk in the prosperity that God has planned for His people. God’s plan for you is health, wisdom, and prosperity and with the complete absence of sickness or lack.

But how can we change our thinking? How can we break years of wrong thoughts and actions? Actually, the answer to that is quite simple. Jesus said in John 8:31-32 that if we would continue in His Word daily, then we would understand the truth and the result of hearing, understanding, and acting upon His truth would be freedom.

Prosperity is freedom. Poverty is bondage. The choice is ours. Jesus said that our words would be the determining factor in whether we are justified or condemned (Matthew 12:37). Also, we are told in Proverbs 18:21 that life and death are in the power of the tongue. What we say is extremely important. It can determine whether we live in prosperity or whether we live in poverty.

How do we know what to say? We look to God’s Word and say what He says.

Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, ‘Let the LORD be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant’” (Psalm 35:27).

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the LORD your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go’” (Isaiah 48:17).

The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it” (Proverbs 10:22).

There are hundreds of references in the Word of God that clearly tell us that prosperity should be the lifestyle of every believer. Just like salvation, we receive prosperity by grace, the awesome power of God. But it is through faith that it is activated. Faith is the catalyst that activates the promise of prosperity in God’s Word in your life. Remember faith is hearing, believing, speaking, and acting on God’s promises.
