Scripture for the Day (October 3, 2017)

Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift? the fruit of the womb his generous legacy? Like a warrior’s fistful of arrows are the children of a vigorous youth. Oh, how blessed are you parents, with your quivers full of children! Your enemies don’t stand a chance against you; you’ll sweep them right off your doorstep. (Psalm 127:3-5, The Message Bible)

It is so good to get together with family. We left for Charlotte, NC on Friday morning (9/28/2017) to visit with our youngest son Chip, his wife Becky, our two grandsons Sam and Matthew, and their dog Abby (my favorite dog ever). We haven’t seen them for several months so it was really good to spend time with all of them.

Chip is serving as Executive Pastor for a church in Charlotte. Sam is playing football for Charlotte Christian and getting a lot of interest from several colleges like Michigan State, Harvard, Clemson, Penn State, and many others. He is a junior and plays left tackle on the offense and is presently 6’5″ and weighs 265 pounds. His dad is 6’7″ so Sam will be a monster by the end of his senior year. They won their game Friday night against an unbeaten team and at the end of the game they all kneeled in the middle of the field and prayed. How often do you see that anymore?

Matthew is playing keyboards and guitar and leading worship in his Christian school. He is a very talented musician at the age of 15. He has that gift of music that has been passed down from my wife’s family. Cheryl’s family members are all gifted musicians and singers and Matthew is following in those footsteps.

To cap the trip off, Barbie Henderson (the wife of our eldest son David) gave birth to our eighth grandchild on Saturday (9/30/2017) while we were in Charlotte. Kaylee Ann Henderson weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces and mommy and baby are both doing great. We left Charlotte on Saturday and went to Adairsville, GA to spend time with this precious new addition to the Henderson clan. God is so good!!!

Thank you God for the strong women you provided our sons and for the strong and gifted children they are raising up to follow you. We are truly a blessed family!!!
