Scripture for the Day (July 3, 2017)

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. (James 1:25)

The July 4th weekend of every year is a special celebration in the United States. We celebrate our nation’s freedom from a foreign power and the signing of our Declaration of Independence. We have parades, fly our flag, honor our troops, and eat barbecue, and much, much more. As good as all that is, there was a more powerful Declaration of Independence written before the United States was ever established. There was liberation from an enemy that was much more powerful. There was a freedom won that is recorded in the most important Declaration of Independence of all time and that’s the Holy Bible.

Let’s take a look at some of those all-important declarations of independence, liberty and freedom:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:16-17)

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (John 8:36)

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy. (1 Peter 2:9-10)

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (John 3:8)

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4)

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (Luke 10:19)

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. (2 Corinthians 3:17)

We are truly blessed to live in the United States of America. We are even more blessed to be a member of the Body of Christ. God Bless you all on this special time of celebration and God Bless the USA!!!
