Scripture for the Day (April 5, 2016)

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light; (1 Peter 2:9)

One of the key truths you will gain by reading the Word of God is that you have an enemy and he is very good at what he does. He is the “father of lies” and he is “the accuser of the brethren” so he is constantly trying to convince you that you are not who the Word of God says you are. Remember, the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy and the best way he can do that is to steal your true identity and convince you that there is no hope, you are a loser, God is against you, and you are completely alone and powerless.

NEWSFLASH!! There is hope, you are not a loser, God is for you and not against you, and you have power available to you to overcome and prosper. You just have to know who you are in Christ! You have to know the truth from the Word of God which is able to defeat all the lies that are constantly thrown at you. The following are just a few examples:

For the addict: (Lie) Once an addict always an addict. (Truth) If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (John 8:36)

For the parent of a prodigal: (Lie) You were obviously a lousy parent and it is all your fault. (Truth) Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the Lord hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me. (Isaiah 1:2) (Can’t get a better parent than God)

For the fearful: (Lie) You can’t do it. (Truth) I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Philippians 4:13) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)

For the lonely: (Lie) I am all alone and nobody loves me. (Truth) Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-39) I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee (Hebrews 13:5) and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. (Matthew 28:20)

For the worrier: (Lie) You need to really worry about this. (Truth) Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. (Philippians 4:6-8) casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully]. (1 Peter 5:7)

These were just a few examples. Every lie from the enemy is calculated to overcome some truth in the Word of God. You just have to find the truth and speak the truth to whatever mountain you face. The answer to whatever problem you face is in the Word of God. Search for it! Believe it! Act on it!

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. (Ephesians 6:13-16, NLT)
