A Nugget from New Life Network

Scripture for the Day (June 20, 2017)

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a [special] people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9)

I think we need to be reminded periodically of who we really are in Christ Jesus. There is just so much negative stuff out there that constantly wants to brand believers with all kinds of nasty names. We are what the Word of God says we are, not what anybody else says we are, and you need to always remember that.

The following are just a few reminders from the Word of God that defines who we are as believers:

I am a child of God.

But to all who have received –those who believe in his name–he has given the right to become God’s children … (John 1:12).

I am a new creature in Christ.

So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away–look, what is new has come….. (2 Corinthians 5:17)!

I was formerly darkness, but now I am light in the Lord.…

For you were at one time darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light (Ephesians 5:8).

I am a friend of Jesus.

I no longer call you slaves, because the slave does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything I heard from my Father (John 15:15).

As a child of God, I am a fellow heir with Christ.

And if children, then heirs (namely, heirs of God and also fellow heirs with Christ)–if indeed we suffer with him so we may also be glorified with him (Romans 8:17).

God supplies all my needs.

And my God will supply your every need according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

The peace of God guards my heart and mind.

And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

One of the best chapters in the Bible to read about who we are is Romans 8. Take time to read and meditate on the words of that chapter that describe us as “more than conquerors”. Regardless of what we go through in this crazy life, nothing (no thing) can separate us from the Love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Take the time to remind yourself who you are and also take the time to remind Satan who you are when he tries to brand you with all his negative stuff.
