Scripture for the Day (September 6, 2016)

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)

We wrote a devotional last week concerning a statement made by Missionary Heidi Baker in response to a question about the many miracles she had seen on the mission field. The question was why did we not see miracles like that in our Western churches? What is the secret? Heidi’s answer was, “You need to get low.” That simple statement has done more to stir me up than anything I have heard in many years.

This devotional covers some additional thoughts and scriptures about “getting low.” I am convinced that the majority of the Western church world has no idea what Heidi is talking about. Most of the Christians in the West have never experienced the powerful presence of God. They have never been in a place where the presence of God was so powerful that the floor was not low enough, speaking was not even a consideration, and crying in a prostrate position was all you could do. Oh how we need that in the Western church today!

And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head. And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made? For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her. And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me. For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her. (Mark 14:3-9)

This woman “got low”. She did what she could and gave what she had to honor God’s only begotten Son who was about to lay down His life for ours. She did not care what other people thought about her! Have we gotten so impressed with ourselves and our religiosity that we have forgotten who we are dealing with? We are talking about the Creator!!! We are talking about the one and only true God!!!

What was John’s response in the Book of Revelation when he came into the presence of the Lord?

I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. (Revelation 1:10-18)

John got low! Help us Lord!!! Sometimes we just lose sight of who you really are. We need your presence Lord!!!
