A Nugget from New Life Network

Scripture for the Day (November 16, 2015)

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, “Abba! Father!” (Romans 8:15)

I remember hearing someone say that they were afraid that if they committed their life completely to God that He might send them to some foreign country and they would be miserable. Or maybe He would make them to do something that they might not want to do. That’s bondage and a spirit of slavery, not freedom!

First of all, God would never send you anywhere that you would be miserable, but the devil would. Once we give our lives completely to God, He changes our want-to and His desires become our desires. As an example, if you are an alcoholic your thirst for alcohol may be changed to a thirst for the Word of God. That’s freedom, not bondage!

Psalm 37:4-5 says, “Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.”

John 8:36 says, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

Galatians 5:1 says, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty with which Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”

Jesus brings freedom from sin, but the devil brings a yoke of bondage. John 10:10 says, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

Sinners think serving God is bondage, but serving sin and Satan is the real bondage. II Timothy 2:24-26 says, “And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.”

In John 15:5 Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” But in Philippians 4:13 Paul said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.” Let me go over that again, without Jesus we can do nothing (bondage); but with Him we can do all things (freedom).

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: (Deuteronomy 30:19)
