Scripture for the Day
(November 3, 2020)

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
(James 1:5-8)

I heard a very popular young television preacher say something yesterday on his program that stirred me up, and not in a good sense. He said that regardless of what happened to him he was okay with it because he knew it had to go through the hands of God first. That kind of theological thinking is prevalent in the Church today and it is the very reason we do not see more miracles and breakthroughs.

In the psychiatric arena there are two mental health conditions that are very serious and somewhat similar in nature. One is bipolar disorder and the second is schizophrenia. defines bipolar as being characterized by opposite extremes or having two opposite poles. Schizophrenia is defined as a behavior that appears to be motivated by contradictory or conflicting principles. You could make an excellent case in court that some of the Church falls into one of these categories in their religious thinking. Let’s think about this for a minute. If you believe that everything goes through the hands of God for His approval then you are going to have to believe that the millions of Jews that were gassed by Hitler and the millions of babies that have been aborted were both approved by God. You are going to have to believe that every murder by a serial killer was approved by God. You are going to have to believe that every plane crash, every disease, every war, etc., etc., were all approved by God. Are you serious? That is not the God I know!!! Now, we have the Book of First John that says God is love (one pole). We have the Gospels that show us the Father through His Son Jesus that went around doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil (the opposite pole). So, what we see is two opposite poles that are warring against each other. We have good and we have evil. We have angels and we have demons. We have God and we have Satan, and they are not the same!!!

The Bible has its’ own name for the mental condition that attributes good to Satan and evil to God. It’s called being double-minded. In fact, the scriptures tell us that if we are double-minded we are unstable in all our ways and will receive nothing from God (James 1:6-8).If we want to receive from God you need to know without a doubt that God is love. You need to know without a doubt that He is light and there is no darkness in Him. You need to know without a doubt that He tempts no man. You need to know without a doubt that His desire is for you to prosper and be in health. He wants to give you good gifts. He is not setting traps for you so He can punish you when to get snared. He is your Heavenly Father. He is not a mafia Godfather that is working in concert with the devil to kill, steal and destroy. We have to get this straight in our minds if we ever want to live a victorious life. We are all in a spiritual battle and you have to know who the enemy is and it’s not God. We wrote a book several years ago entitled “For the Love of God”. A large part of that book was dedicated to this very subject.

Jesus told us that the most important commandment was to love God with all our heart, all our soul, and all our mind. Double-minded thinking is a trick of the enemy to limit that love by never coming to a settled place in your heart and mind of who God is. We cannot vacillate like that. We have to know His heart and know who He is. You know that by looking at Jesus! You know that by reading His Word. You know that by developing a personal relationship with Him. When you know Him heart to heart you will know that He is love!!!
