Baby Birds in a StormIt’s nesting time in the South. It’s the season for the birthing of new life. Birds are building their nests, laying their eggs, and nurturing their young ones. This year we are watching this happen up close and personal because a small mother bird decided to build her nest on our back deck in one of my wife’s favorite flowerpots. We have watched while she carefully constructed the nest, laid her eggs, and is now bringing food to her newly hatched babies.

One of the other things that we have observed in this process is how the mother bird has protected her young ones. We recently had a huge storm. There were torrents of rain that went on for hours. My first thought was that these little baby birds would probably drown in all this rain. I thought about moving the flowerpot but I did not want to freak the mother out if she couldn’t find her babies so I left it where it was.

The next morning I asked my wife how they were doing (she gets up a lot earlier than I do) and I was astonished at what she told me. The momma bird had brought in this big leaf and placed it over the nest to protect the baby birds. How cool is that?? They had their own umbrella.

That just reminded me of the following scriptures: Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?” (Matthew 7:26)“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? Or, What shall we drink? or, Where-withal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 7:31-33). “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler”. (Psalm 91:4)

We want to encourage you today. If you are going through a storm, seek first the Kingdom of God. Cheryl and I just celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary. We raised three boys. We have been through some storms. We started New Life Network in 1989 and I retired from my secular job in 1992. We have lived by faith for the last 21 years. Have there been challenges. Of course there’s been challenges. But we can say to you today that God has never let us down. He has always provided. We are at great peace because our heavenly Father always knows what we have need of.

Be at peace today!! He knows what you have need of also. Seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

In His Service,
